Yesterday, my good friend and confidant, Russell Morse and I headed over to 11th Avenue in Chelsea to have a look at the Capsule Show Men’s Event. What we found was a blissfully curated selection of some of the finest menswear brands in the land.
As expected, there was a heavy overtone of timeless and classically inspired garb. Yet the industry did not feel stuck in the past, it felt exuberant and optimistic. Often we found our eyes drawn towards bold and playful prints from an assortment of designers. Many toyed with feminine inspirations, refreshingly hinting towards a looser, more explorative and expressive direction to men’s fashion.
Brooklyn’s own Oviada & SonsAriel Ovadia of Ovadia & Sons with his spread and a gorgeous silk/cashmere double-breasted jacket
Sweden’s Our LegacyNot the greatest visual, but the shorts hanging on the right had a fantastic muted/subtle color palette that we were particularly fond of.
212 local, REPO.BRAND
. A true standout marked by inspired detailing. REPO’s website is also worth a look.
super cool tie pin above and metal clasps on the fireman jacket below
had one of the best collections in terms of wearability with subtle styling and great texture. Also, possibly the best slogan
Great meeting Corey of NYC’s Parke & Ronen
, here he is holding up a choice pair of hallucinogenically induced trunks
Inspiring and original footwear from Osborn
The alter-ego work of designers Jose Abellar and David Ayala known as Gilbert and Lewis
. These shorts show great detailing, tastefully perfected inside and out

After all was said and done Capsule was a hell of a showcase: too many promising products, friendly folks and a downright good time. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to speak with Russell and me, and we look forward to more soon!

I’m putting this thing to sleep
Featuring: Mister Freedom Button-Down, J. Crew Sailboat Pants, Oakley Blades Sunglasses, Bandanas, Moreschi Indian Mocs, J. Press Knit Tie
These we figured were purchased in 1987 (rainbow lens) and 1993. The wrap-around lens is perfect for sports and being an extra in Tron. Both pairs have a crack in the frame above the lens which depending on your philosophical disposition may add character.
Bandanas from my ever growing collection, like hot dogs, you can never have enough of these… Moreschi Indian Mocs
The 30th Thing of June: perfectly fit for July.
